Mi Ami
—Time Of Love

“Time of Love,” the latest from SF/NY duo Mi Ami first caught my attention with its simple-yet-elegant combination of minimal house and dubby ambience. The track’s synths and samples get loose in a maze of echoes and filters while the kinetic 4/4 thump provides a solid backbone. Pleasant for sure; nothing groundbreaking though there’s always something to be said for tasteful execution of a good idea. The surprise comes with the knowledge that just two years ago the group was an experimental post-hardcore power trio (seriously). It’s as big a change in sound as I’ve heard from any group, but it looks like there’s no use in focusing on the past. These guys sure aren’t.
