Imperfect Sound Forever

As a band so fascinated with pushing the idea of a “man-machine” to it’s logical end, it’s no surprise that Battles commissioned a remix album of their latest effort Gloss Drop (yep, it’s called Dross Glop).  The Field’s Axel Willner is a perfect fit as a remixer, not only because of Battles’ fascination with minimal techno, but because Willner has also spent the last half-decade blurring the line between electronic and organic. His take on “Sweetie & Shag” does not disappoint, crafting his signature hypnotic rhythm out of the detritus of Battles’ digital crunch.  As the loop ceases to have a beginning or an end, your mind starts rearranging the pieces and inserting bits that aren’t really there, and something organic begins to sprout from the mechanical repetition.
